Our industry can be hard on the planet, which is why Burrell’s is investing in green technologies that save water, reduce energy consumption and constrain our carbon footprint. It’s why we’ve made the switch to biodegradable plastics.
We are a company committed to minimising, reusing and reducing the water we use. Right now, we reuse 38 to 40 percent of the water in our business and we’re working on improving that figure every day.
Our new European washing and drying machines achieve better efficiency (through automation) and have reduced our environmental impact considerably. We’re proud to report we’ve clocked up carbon savings of more than 75 percent (according to our latest Instep figures).
At Burrell’s, we recycle or reuse a range of our waste products including water, plastic and cardboard – and we’re making the switch to biodegradable plastics. Recycling is an ongoing priority for our business.
In late 2015 we began the changeover to energy-efficient, long lasting LED lighting for our entire business from the factory through to the office. We’ve also embarked on a vehicle replacement programme, which will see us fitted out with Euro 5 rated vehicles (vehicles with a reduced carbon rating).
We are proud to be AsureQuality certified, which means we meet the industry standards for handling and cleaning workwear and linens used within a wide range of primary industries.
At Burrell’s, we are proud members of the Instep programme to reduce our carbon emissions. Instep keeps us motivated and on track by measuring and reporting on our performance and benchmarking our performance against national norms. We’re pleased to say we’re doing really well – and plan to do even better.
